The hair routine recommended by Tribus Urbaines for your curly hair

Material :

  • Shampoo,
  • Hair conditioner,
  • Nourishing cream,
  • Oil (almond, avocado, jojoba, grape seed, etc.)
  • Water spray or Vitamin spray.

First step:

Choose your products well. They should be moisturizing (even shampoo). Usually, a moisturizer contains water as the main ingredient. They must not contain any sulphate, silicone or parabens.

The weekly ritual:

When washing your hair, get into the habit of washing your hair once a week, in the morning, with shampoo and conditioner (the frizzier your hair, the more conditioner is needed). So get yourself a moisturizing shampoo, a moisturizing conditioner and a styling / nourishing cream. Use a dab of shampoo on wet hair, rinse, then repeat the operation. It is important to shampoo twice to thoroughly clean the hair and get rid of all accumulated products (even good products). This is the best way to prepare your curls for the care that will follow. When the shampoo foams, your hair is clean and you can move on. Continue by applying a teaspoon of your conditioner and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Take the opportunity to wash your body, cut your nails or whatever. Then, detangle your hair and rinse. To finish, apply a small dab of nourishing cream, working it through the entire length of your hair, the same way you apply cream to your body after showering.

Between two shampoos:

Maintain hydration between shampoos, daily or every two to three days (depending on the hydration level of your hair) by spraying your hair with water. Just water is enough! When a plant is thirsty, we give it water, not oil. If you have the impression that your hair is really very dry (especially in winter), add a dab of nourishing cream to your spray bottle filled with 2dl of water. To lock in moisture and a shine effect, heat three drops of oil in your hands and apply them while styling your curls with your fingers.

Tip 1: turn your conditioner into a mask

Add a teaspoon of oil (avocado, sweet almond, olive, etc.) to a teaspoon of your conditioner. Mix everything together, apply to your washed hair and leave it on for 30 and 40 minutes. If you want to deeply hydrate your hair, avoid coconut oil or argan oil. These are protein oils (not moisturizing) to use if your hair has been colored, relaxed or badly damaged. You can also mix several oils. Just make sure you always use at least one moisturizing oil.

Tip 2: cold water

Use very cold water for your final rinse. Not only does it boost curl definition but it’s great for blood circulation. Apply a dab of styling cream to your wet hair and dry it lightly with a towel. Style your curls with your fingers and let them air-dry the rest of the way.

Tip 3: how to optimize hydration during sleep

Rule # 1: Avoid sleeping with wet hair. It promotes the development of dandruff.
Rule # 2: Use a satin, silk or microfiber pillowcase or headscarf. These are materials that keep your hair’s natural hydration in your hair, unlike cotton, which tends to absorb it.
